A Tonbridge parishioner is hoping to find Jesus.
Helen Longley, lay reader at St Peter and St Paul Church hopes her saviour will arrive on a donkey at Easter and cheering crowds will shower him with exaltation.
In a starring role like no other, the chosen one will play Jesus in a Passion play produced by Tonbridge and Area Churches Together.
It’s being staged in the grounds of Tonbridge Castle on Good Friday next year and the search has already begun for a heavenly lead.
Helen, 71, and the play’s director, said the vacancy had no specific must-haves, but the right candidate will comply with certain physical attributes.
“He has to be young, male and athletic,” she said.
“But it’s more about how he can act and engage with a crowd.”
Tonbridge primary school children are likely to be among the bit-part players cheering Christ as he arrives on a donkey – whose services have also yet to be secured – through the castle gates.
It’s the first time the area’s churches have worked together on a dramatic project.
Helen said: “The response so far has been positive and quite a few people have been in touch to say they are interested in the part.
“Nobody can get into the mind of Jesus, but a good actor will be able to inhabit any role.”

Auditions are being held on Sunday, November 4 and 11 at Tonbridge Baptist Church in Darenth Avenue.
