Shernold School's May Day celebrations in June

It is unlikely Shernold School’s decision to move it’s May Day celebration to June will catch on, but it certainly helped beat the inclement weather this year.

The whole school gathered for a belated Maypole Dance in the sun on Friday to mark the spring festival, traditionally held on May 1.

The school had been forced to delay the event after last month’s was rained off.

Each class at the independent school in Queen’s Avenue performed a dance to music from Disney in front of an estimated 200 parents.

PTA chairman Sacha Howard said: “The finale dance was fantastic. The whole school did that to the Disney Parade music.”

Youngsters had decorated cakes and prizes were awarded to two pupils from each class whose frosting stood out from their peers.

The cakes were cut up and sold to parents to raise money for children’s hospice Demelza House.

For the first time this year, artwork was on display in the school hall for parents to buy.

The proceeds will go towards new playground equipment.
