A shift manager at a motorway branch of McDonald's is facing sentence after today being convicted of stealing more than £13,000.
Sandra Telfer told police she habitually put money down her trousers on her way to depositing it.
She made the claim after she was arrested on suspicion of theft while working at the fast food restaurant at Roadchef on the M20 near Hollingbourne, Maidstone.
Maidstone Crown Court heard that when the cash office was shut, responsibility for money drops fell to managers. An internal investigation revealed cash was going missing.
CCTV footage showed 46-year-old Telfer (pictured right) putting a cash bag into a pocket.
Prosecutor Sophie Shotton said Telfer could not recall doing this when asked about it by officers.
"She said when she took money from the safe to the cash drop she would habitually put it down the front of her trousers in case anyone tried to get it from her," said Miss Shotton.
Telfer, of Oxford Road, Maidstone, denied 25 theft charges involving £13,345 between December 2011 and March 2012, but was convicted.
Judge Charles Byers granted conditional bail until sentence on May 10.
