Pest control teams have been called to a Wetherspoon pub in Maidstone after shocked diners spotted mice scurrying across the floor.
But the pub’s team is aware of the problem and has been working with a pest control company to sort the issue.
Customers have left negative reviews on the TripAdvisor page of The Muggleton Inn in the High Street after seeing the rodents roaming around in the 19th century building.
The pub, which received top food hygiene marks after inspectors visited in June 2016, has confirmed it is taking action.
One reviewer said on June 1: “During a visit this evening a mouse was seen running around the floor. This was reported to staff and one friend said he reported seeing one a couple of weeks ago and reported it.”
Another said: “We saw a mouse run through upstairs when we were eating our food. This was end of April and I’m shocked to see another reviewer has commented a week ago to say they also saw the mouse. This has been an issue since I visited well over a month ago. Disgusting.”
Eddie Gershon, a spokesman for Wetherspoon, said the pub had known about the problem for several weeks.
He said: “The Muggleton Inn is housed in a very old building and we suspect mice are nesting and not easily accessible.
“Our pest control contractors have been dealing with the situation and are pest-proofing the building.
“The council is fully aware and the environmental health officers have visited the pub and are happy with the manner in which the situation is being dealt with.
“The pub has not had to close as a result.”
A council spokesman said they were not aware of any issues relating to The Muggleton Inn.
In its inspection last year the Muggleton was rated “good” for hygienic food handling and condition and cleanliness of the building and “very good” for food safety management.
