Broadcaster and former MP Michael Portillo will be exploring a picturesque Kent landmark on this evening's episode of Great British Railway Journeys.
Armed with his trusty 1930s Bradshaw’s Guide, he pays a visit to Leeds Castle, near Maidstone, and learns about the legacy of its last private owner, Lady Olive Baillie, as he explores her opulent 1930s library and drawing rooms with deputy curator Catherine Pell.
The latest episode of the series - which airs on BBC Two at 6.30pm - sees the former Tory cabinet minister travel across Kent from Herne Bay before concluding his trip at the castle.
Previous instalments in what is now the show's 13th series have also featured journeys in Kent, with visits to towns including Deal and Margate.
In years gone by the county has also featured in earlier episodes of the long-running railway programme, which sees its host stopping of at places of interest as he travels the country by train.
In 2013 Mr Portillo, dapper in a bright pink blazer, had a go at skippering the Gravesend to Tilbury ferry. Later, in 2019, he was filmed stopping at Dartford where he discovered the origins of netball and gymslips at the North Kent College.
Filming for this evening's show took place at Leeds Castle during lockdown on October 2 and it even saw Mr Portillo punting on the castle's moat.
Great British Railway Journeys is shown on BBC Two at 6.30pm and is available on BBC iPlayer
