There will be more bobbies on the Maidstone beat on Friday and Saturday nights after shift patterns were reorganised.
The change means more officers will now be be on duty, up until 5am both nights.
District Commander Chief Insp Simon Wilson said: “Maidstone continues to be a really popular place for people to socialise and thousands of people do so each weekend in the town. We have adjusted the shifts of foot patrol officers who are on foot patrol in the town on weekend evenings to put more officers on the streets for longer.
“This allows us to respond quickly to any incidentss that occur, and also to provide a visible presence to and try and reduce the risk of any disorder taking place.”
Town centre manager, Bill Moss, said: “We do seem to have been suffering from a lack of visible officers in the town centre over the past nine months so anything that can be done to improve that situation is to be welcomed and encouraged.”
Officers will be working from 7pm to 5am, compared to 4pm to 2am previously. The change was prompted by a general review into staffing during the nightime economy.
