He's fought social injustice and battled to protect workers in Maidstone, but this weekend Morel D’Souza will let his hair down with the best of 'em at the annual event he founded six years ago.

Morel, a former Maidstone borough councillor who lost his seat in the council elections in May, will be leading the Maidstone Mela on Sunday (September 14) at Mote Park, which aims to celebrate the diversity of the town’s culture through music, food and dance.

In this week’s Friday Interview, he spoke to Angela Cole - accompanied by a soundtrack of loud snores from his beloved dog Benjie - about what brought a Kenyan-born, Goan educated man to Maidstone, and what kept him here.
