Mote Squash Club's James Evans has been crowned national under-15 champion after a thrilling victory in the final in Manchester on Sunday.
Evans (pictured) fought back from two games to one down to beat top seed Hamish Falconer of Lincolnshire 7-11, 11-5, 6-11, 11-5, 11-8 in a match lasting an hour and six minutes.
The No.2 seed booked his place in the final - against an opponent he had never previously beaten - courtesy of a gruelling 11-7, 10-12, 11-2, 9-11, 11-2 semi-final win over George Parker of Leicestershire.
Evans, who is 15 on November 13, was watched by national coach Fiona Geaves.
The title completed a memorable year for the Oakwood Park Grammar School pupil who made his debut for England in the Junior Home Internationals and led the Kent under-15 team to the national inter-county championship.
Evans has also recorded several notable victories for the Mote first team in the Kent League this season. He beat former Kent champion Duane Harrison in the Bexley Open and became the youngest player to compete in a PSA world-ranking tournament when he appeared in the Kent Open at The Mote in June.
