Motorists are suffering long delays around the A249 Bearsted Road near Nottcutts in Maidstone.
There is no single cause but rather congestion is building as a consequence of a number of hold-ups in the area having a knock-on effect.
There are temporary traffic lights in place in Hampton Road while South East Water lays a new water main.
Birling Avenue is closed in part, while SGN replaces a gas main.
Grovewood Drive North is partially blocked while KCC carries out road repairs.
There are traffic light controls around roadworks in Mynn Crescent.

Water Lane is closed at it junction with Roundwell to allow a sewer main connection to be made.
Then in addition, at night-time, New Cut Road and Bearsted Road are the official diversion for HGVs to avoid Maidstone town centre while resurfacing work is carried out.
Unfortunately there is more trouble ahead in the New Year with two-way traffic lights scheduled at the southern end of New Cut Road between January 27 and February 14, and Weavering Street is due to be closed near The Fox and Goose on February 3.
Ware Street, close to the entrance to the allotments, will be closed between February 10 and 12 to allow BT to carry out ducting works, while Windmill Heights will be closed between February 17 and February 21 to enable SGN to replace gas mains.
Finally, Grovewood Drive South will be closed close to its junction with New Cut Road from February 24 till March 13 for the installation of ductwork to serve street lights and traffic signals.
