Traffic built up on the M20 after a car burst into flames this morning.

Emergency crews were called to the coastbound carriageway between junctions 5 and 6 near Maidstone shortly before 11.30am.

Onlookers captured pictures of smoke billowing from the car, which blocked part of the road.

Kent Fire and Rescue Services sent two fire engines to tackle the blaze.

Crews used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to put out the flames.

One lane remains closed (12.30pm) as the debris is cleared.
