A 30-year-old van driver has died after a crash on the M26 yesterday.

The Volkswagen Caddy driver, who is from Buckinghamshire, was killed when his van was in a crash with a lorry between junction 2A and 1.

Police were called at just after 3.30pm, and the road was closed from junction 2A at Borough Green, but reopened before 10pm.

Highways Agency officers turned traffic around to clear the tailbacks, and the agency reported all trapped cars were freed by 7.30pm.

The accident is believed to have happened as traffic queued to get onto the M25, which was seriously congested all day yesterday following an earlier crash between Sevenoaks and Godstone.

Kent Fire and Rescue sent three fire engines, and ambulance crews were also called.
