A ground worker facing two charges of attempted murder has been further remanded into custody.
Anthony Deeprose had been given bail by magistrates following his arrest at the weekend.
But he remained locked-up after the decision was appealed by the Crown Prosecution Service.
Today a judge at Maidstone Crown Court reversed the magistrates' decision after hearing how alleged victim Ben Walsh is in an induced coma after being struck by a car.
A friend, George Wilkie, was also injured in the incident early on Saturday.
The court heard how police had been called to the Station Road area of Maidstone following a report two men had been injured.
A car, believed to have been involved, was found 90 minutes later near Faversham.
Emergency crews arrived shortly before 12.30am with one of the alleged victims requiring treatment for head injuries.
Deeprose, of Church Court, Maidstone, is also charged with assault by beating, failing to stop following a collision in which a person was injured, disqualified driving and driving without insurance.
Two other men, aged 21 and 35, who were also arrested in connection with the incident were bailed to return to the police station on February 6.
Deeprose, 29, who attended by prison video link, will next appear at a plea and trial preparation hearing at Maidstone Crown Court next month.
