A young musician has an ambition – to open a music recording studio and rehearsal rooms for free for Maidstone and Malling’s youth.

Nick Wilson, 25, has played the guitar since the age of five and had his first professional guitar session at the age of 15 with the TV theme writer Mike Westergaard.

The former Aylesford School student has played with several bands but said: "We always struggled to find rehearsal rooms or studios that we could afford to practice and capture our music in."

He doesn’t want other young musicians to suffer the same fate.

Having taught for the Kent Music School and helped set up YOG, an organisation which gives a platform to young bands to showcase their talent, he is keen to do more to help aspiring musicians.

Mr Wilson said: "I know there is not much available for people to express themselves for free, so I hope that by offering such services it will help the greater community, bringing people together and getting people off the streets and giving them some focus in life."

The problem is funding. Mr Wilson estimates the basic equipment will costs £150,000, then there are the costs of the premises. He is applying to various grant funding projects, but needs help.

He said: "I’d love to hear from anyone with suitable premises, or anyone who can help with funding the project."
