A fresh new look for part of a multi-million-pound shopping centre has been revealed, with two new retailers set to be added.
Fremlin Walk in Maidstone has been in the limelight in recent weeks after it was put on the market for £25 million, and planning documents have revealed a new design for its anchor store House of Fraser.
The mega shop, which is owned by Frasers Group Mike Ashley who reportedly made an offer for the town centre complex this week, is undergoing a pre-planned refurbishment,
It is looking to introduce new stores Sports Direct, Frasers and Flannels, as well as bringing Game back to the town and the USC clothing brand, it’s been revealed.
The glass front of the House of Fraser, found at the end of Fremlin Walk, is set to be changed to include branding for those mentioned above, as well as Nike, Adidas, Puma and Under Armour for the sports store.
Signage on the corner of the shopping centre, which is visible from St Faith’s Street and the A229, will also be changed if plans are approved.
Speaking about any effect the new signs would have on the town, a heritage statement from the applicant said: “The proposed signage on Fremlin Walk would have no impact on the local Maidstone town conservation area, or the local listed buildings due to the nature of the local built environment and streetscape.
“All signage on this façade would be visible from Fremlin Walk only.
“New signage on St Faith’s Street and Earl Street would not have an impact on the local listed buildings or conservation areas due to the positioning of the signage facing towards Fairmeadow.
“The new signage has been designed in a way not to visually clutter the facades, by the varying nature of the brands advertised and the spacing that has been designed between them.
“In conclusion, the proposals will be absorbed into the building and area.
“The signage is of smaller scale than the existing signs and is typical of the other commercial premises within the area.
“The proposals will not have a negative effect on the Maidstone North town conservation area.”
