Chatham and Aylesford MP Tracey Crouch has been handed a plum parliamentary role.
She has been appointed onto the culture, media and sport select committee.
The 10-strong group monitors the policy, administration and expenditure of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and its associated bodies, including the BBC.
It carries out its tasks on behalf of the House of Commons and the electorate.
Committee members are voted in by their fellow MPs.
Miss Crouch, 37, who became an MP in 2010, said she was happy to take on the extra responsibility.
In a tweet following the announcement, she wrote: “I’m delighted to be selected for the culture, media and sport committee.
“Thanks to colleagues for their support.”
