New rules for Tovil tip

Changes come into effect at Tovil tip from Monday.

After this weekend, Kent County Council is introducing tough new restrictions at all of its recycling centres – including the waste transfer station in Burial Ground Lane.

It means cars with trailers longer than 6ft 8in, vans and pick-up trucks will no longer be welcome.

Cars carrying 34 house bricks or more will not be allowed to dump them at the tip.

And cars over two metres in height will not be welcome, unless the owners have obtained a special permit.

Tyres and asbestos, currently free to offload, will now cost £5 per item.

KCC said the changes would benefit customers because there would be “less congestion and queueing.”

But Willington Street resident David Woodcock, who will no longer be able to drive his Jeep under the barrier, said: “I cannot be the only person that is being discriminated against like this.
“I think there will be an increase in fly-tipping because of this.”
