Dancing brothers from Sandling have returned from a competition in Amsterdam as European champions.
Jordan, 11, and Sasha Shepherd, eight, scooped the top prize in the team dancing category at the International Dance Organisation’s (IDO) Street Dancing Championships.
It is the first time a British team has left the tournament as champions and older brother Jordan also achieved third place in the under 12 solo category.
Sasha said: “It was a great feeling.
“I think it’s one of the best moments of my life and I’m looking forward to the world championships in August. I want to be a world champion.”
The brothers became European champions in the U12 team category while performing with Clique, a group put together by choreographer Tashan Muir.
Mr Muir handpicked the best street dancers across the
country to form a national team that trained with him at dance centres in Dartford and Barking.
Straight after returning from Amsterdam, Jordan, a pupil at Sandling
Primary School, set off on a week-long school trip to an
activity camp in Surrey.
Mother Angelika said: “I am so proud of my boys and their team. They have done so well to get to where they are.
“All of them work so hard, it takes up a lot of time, but it goes to show that not all of the youth today are bad. It was very emotional when the national anthem was played.”
The boys will next compete at the UDO Street Dance World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, from August 23-25.
To help raise money for the team’s expenses, Mrs Shepherd has made sweets, which have gone on sale at the Kings Arms on the Street, in Boxley.
