After enquiries on the registration plate established the car was not insured, the force attempted to pull the driver over.

A pursuit then began along the A229 towards Maidstone, through Snodland, Leybourne and Larkfield, along narrow country lanes and on the wrong side of the road.

Officers were also faced with spray from a fire extinguisher coming from the car.

The chase eventually came to a stop in East Malling High Street after crashing into bollards.

Officers arrested two people from inside the car.

A 21-year-old man from Chatham was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and possession of a class A drug.

A 20-year-old man from the Isle of Sheppey was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop.

Both have been released on bail while enquiries continue.
