A chip shop which has been in the town centre for more than half a century has closed.
Deep Blue in Maidstone, which is found near the corner of Union Street and Week Street, has been boarded up.
The restaurant has been a part of the town centre since around the 1960s but has changed its name and owners multiple times.
In the 60s it was known as the Seven Seas fish and chip shop, before later changing to a Harry Ramsdens, and later being called Deep Blue.
The bright blue chippy has had its signage removed and is now boarded up.
A sign on the front of restaurant says: “Deep Blue Maidstone is now closed.
“Thank you to our customers for your loyalty and support over the years.
“We hope to you see you again at another of our locations – your nearest is Deep Blue Oxted.”
Deep Blue Oxted is 32 miles and a 40-minute drive away.
People walking past the site over the weekend noticed the eatery had been boarded up, with many upset about the closure.
Maggie Payne said: “I worked there on Saturdays nearly 60 years ago when it was the Seven Seas – my mum did too.
“It was always packed out in the restaurant and had queues out the door for takeaways the good old days it was so popular.”
Laura Osborne added: “I used to go there on a Friday when I worked in Army & Navy many years ago.
“I wish Marino's fish and chips would take it over as theirs are so nice too.”
While Sandra Dryden commented: “I saw this yesterday very sad but has not been busy since the pandemic.
“Hopefully open up under new management by another fish and chip shop or a good pie and mash shop.”
It comes a couple of days after it was announced Feathers in Lockmeadow would also be closing.
Multiple town centre locations, including Creams dessert shop, the former Morrisons store and Paddy Power have all been put on the market.
Deep Blue restaurants have been approached for comment.
