Jack Green may have already claimed European under-23 gold this season but Olympic silver medallist Colin Jackson is tipping the 400m hurdler’s season to get even better next month.
Green, (pictured) 19, stormed to European under-23 gold earlier this month, clocking 49.13 seconds in the process – just six days after he set a new lifetime best of 48.98 at the Birmingham Grand Prix.
He’s the newest kid on the block when it comes to 400m hurdles and has joined some illustrious company including European and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Dai Greene, who is a genuine contender for the World Championships title in Daegu, South Korea, next month.
Despite his tender years, Green, who is coached by Malcolm Arnold, has already achieved the qualification standard for the World Championships – and Jackson believes he’ll be making the trip to the Far East.
"Jack can definitely be challenging for World Championship qualification," said Jackson, who was the star guest on Wednesday as Eurostar celebrated the one-year-to-countdown to 2012 by giving 20 competition winners a close-up look at the London 2012 venues.
"He has got a good personal best but the good thing is with Jack,
I see him getting quicker and
he is certainly capable of qualifying for the World Championships.
"The 400m hurdles is one of the most competitive races out there, though, so it is not going to be easy.
"When I have spoken to Malcolm Arnold about Jack, he just says ‘the boy has two hearts he can run for so long’."
"His build means that he struggles sometimes with his stride patterns because he is not quite ready to reduce it while the pattern he runs with at present means that he has to stutter a little bit sometimes."
Eurostar is opening the way to London 2012. As the Official International Rail Services Provider to London 2012, Eurostar will bring hundreds of thousands of sports fans from the continent to London to soak up the atmosphere.
