He's famous for powering his way to Olympic Gold but swimmer Duncan Goodhew couldn't power his way to the right train this morning - leaving him late to see hundreds of pupils in Maidstone.

The athlete and MBE was due at Brunswick House Primary School in Leafy Lane to encourage more schools to get involved in competitive sport.

Earlier this morning, he was on BBC Radio 2 talking to breakfast host Chris Evans about his charity swimathon and career.

At the end of the interview, the chatty host urged him to 'get going' as he had a train to catch from London Victoria to Maidstone, and Goodhew sped out of the studio.

But it appears he missed his slot to the gentle amusement of everyone at the school.

A basketball and football tournament involving 60 youngsters from Brunswick House and pupils from seven nearby schools are taking place.

However, despite an unfortunate start to the morning Mr Goodhew is booked in for a full day at Brunswick House and will offer an opening speech, watch the tournament, and take part in a press conference. He is also bringing his medals, gained at the 1980 Games and the torch he carried ahead of the 2012 London Olympics.
