Amazon investigates reports of hundreds of parcels being processed in make-shift sorting office in Warwick Avenue, Maidstone

Fed-up residents say their street is being used as a makeshift sorting office with hundreds of parcels being unloaded outside their homes each day.

Neighbours claim vans constantly block access to Warwick Avenue, Maidstone and that they are sometimes woken up in the night by the sound of slamming vehicle doors, packages being thrown around and men shouting to each other.

They say the packages appear to be from retail giant Amazon and are marked with its logo and recognisable black tape.

One of the men involved is also said to have a delivery bag sporting the company’s branding.

A spokesperson for Amazon said the issue is being investigated.

Residents claim that up to five vans at a time park on the double yellow-lined pavements, blocking the one-way street as they collect the parcels, which have been tossed into the road.

One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, says it has turned the street scene into an “eyesore” and makes her ashamed to live there.

She said: “It is always the same vans bringing the parcels in and offloading them so we think that those drivers are the actual Amazon couriers and that the others who collect them are just friends making some money.

“It's causing such an impact on our lives.

“We are woken up sometimes as late as 1am with the crashing and slamming of van doors, parcels being thrown around and men shouting to each other while they sort the parcels in the road – I have two young children who are woken constantly by it.

“We are just a residential street and should not have to suffer noise disturbance like living in a large sorting facility and the unsightly mess and chaos it creates.”

Neighbours added that parcels are often left on their doorsteps and the vans parked right by their homes.

They say the issue has been going on for a year, but has escalated in the last few months.

The resident added: “I contacted Amazon multiple times and they emailed me saying they wouldn't give me the details for the local depot manager and just thanked me for my ‘feedback’.

“They don't seem to want to help with the issue or care that all these parcels are going awry.”

Email correspondence seen by KentOnline confirmed Amazon would share the information provided to “the company contracted for the delivery” but it did not disclose the outcome of their investigation.

A spokesperson for Amazon said: “We have very high standards for our delivery service providers. We’re looking into this.”
