A dog waste bin is causing problems for residents of Grove Green.

The overflowing refuse point on Provender Way has been in its current state since last Thursday.

Not only is it full to capacity with excrement, there are also a number of bags placed around the bin on the ground.

Residents have therefore been complaining to Maidstone Borough Council, asking for the 'hazard' to be removed as soon as possible.

The bin has been plastered with signs to warn people of the danger, reading "health hazard, this has been reported TWICE. Still nothing done!!"

One resident, Louise, has taken to Twitter to publicly air her qualms to the council, which has responded to say that dog walkers can use all bins to dispose of their animal's faeces.

She adds that this bin is not the only problem with the upkeep of the estate, which is the duty of the borough council.

As reported in this week's Kent Messenger, the council has recently announced that it will be phasing out its 354 animal waste bins, and expects to save close to £20,000 by doing so.

A spokesman for Maidstone Borough Council said: "We can confirm that this is an isolated case, it has been reported and will be emptied."

"Most dog waste bins are emptied weekly, but in busy locations this can increase to two or three times a week.

"Occassionally some bins fill up between collections, and when this happens we’re grateful to residents for alerting us.

"As long as it’s bagged, dog waste can be disposed of in any bin.”
