Two thugs who launched a vicious attack on four strangers in the street, breaking a man's jaw and a woman's nose, have been locked up.
Aaron Treeby, 20, and a 17-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons set upon two nightclub workers outside Strawberry Moons in Maidstone after one of the victims tried to stop them stealing a bicycle.
When the man asked them to leave the bike alone, the pair grew increasingly aggressive and punched him to the ground, breaking his jaw.
A woman who pleaded with the attackers to stop was also beaten and knocked to the floor, leaving her bleeding heavily from a broken nose.
Two other men were then assaulted as they tried to intervene, before the attackers fled down Gabriel's Hill.
"This was a completely unprovoked and mindless attack" - Det Craig Malthouse
Police were called and the duo tried to run away, but the teenager was stopped and arrested.
Treeby was then stopped by members of the public and also taken into custody.
They later pleaded guilty to four counts of assault, which happened on August 1.
Treeby, of Sunderland Drive, Rainham, has now been sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court to a total of two years and three months in prison. The 17 year-old was jailed for one year.
Speaking afterwards, Detective Craig Malthouse said: "This was a completely unprovoked and mindless attack on a group of people relaxing after they had finished work.
"Their attackers were looking for an excuse to fight and set upon the first people they could find. They struck one of the victims so hard that he has had to have a titanium plate inserted into his jaw.
"I'm grateful to the victims, who have shown the courage to give evidence and help us ensure these two have faced justice.
"I would also like to thank the members of the public who bravely assisted us in detaining these violent offenders."
