PARENTS have been finding out which senior school their child is expected to attend from September.
Any parent who previously registered online with Kent County Council can log on now and view their child’s allocated school place. Posted allocations are due to arrive on Tuesday morning.
This year’s allocation is the first under a new system where the Kent Test was sat in September, which meant parents knew if their children had passed the exam before applying for a school place.
Just under 48 per cent of children in Maidstone, Malling and the Weald who took the Kent Test passed the exam.
Figures revealed under the Freedom of Information Act showed that 1,547 children from schools in these areas took the test, which determines if a child qualifies for a grammar school place, and 734 passed.
Across Kent 5,137, or 46 per cent of 11,059 who took it, passed the exam.
Once again Roseacre Junior School in Bearsted had the highest number of pupils both sitting (88) and passing (53) the exam.
Mark Dance, Kent County Council’s cabinet member for education, operations, rescources and skills, said: “Some parents prefer alternative types of schools or academies and it is not appropriate to suggest one primary school is better than another simply because of the number of children who may have sat the Kent test.
“Some parents will have taken a decision for their own reasons not to let their child sit the test and this would be completely outside of the control of the schools."
Mr Dance insisted that Kent had a range of outstanding schools of various types and parents had to consider a range of factors in determining the most appropriate setting for their children’s future educational needs.
