Cyclists and walkers could soon have a direct route to Cobtree Manor Park.
Maidstone council is to carry out a feasibility study into linking the towpath at Allington Lock with a combined footpath and cycle way to the park.
The aim is to create a traffic-free sustainable transport link to the popular attraction which is mainly accessible via the M20 and A229.
The scheme links into a wider study into the possibility of making a cycle path along the River Medway between Maidstone and Tonbridge, and, in the long term, all the way to Rochester.
Cycle hire is also being considered for Cobtree Manor Park, which was created in the 1970s on the site of the former Maidstone Zoo.
The council will also approach the Museum of Kent Life about creating allotments on its land.
There are 142 people waiting for plots in Maidstone and it’s thought the use of the disused land would help ease the problem.
There are also plans to introduce gate counters to Cobtree Manor Estate in order to determine the number of visitors.
The issues were due to be discussed at a council meeting on Wednesday.
