Park and Ride plans challenged

THE decision by Maidstone council to do away with its permanent attendants at the town’s three Park and Ride sites and to replace them with CCTV has been challenged by back-bench members.

Cllrs Dan Daley (Lib Dem) and Malcom Robertson (Lib Dem) said there “would be an unacceptable increased security risk to service users’ parked cars”, that a lack of supervision was inviting vandalism to the on-site toilets, and that the public would suffer through not having anyone to offer timetable advice or help those with pushchairs or prams, or the disabled, to board.

They have called the decision in for review at a meeting of regeneration and sustainable communities scrutiny committee at the Town Hall next Tuesday (April 14) at 6.30pm. The meeting is open to the public.
