Parking restrictions in Maidstone have been temporarily relaxed after a surge in demand for spaces in residential streets as more people stay at home.
It means those with a valid permit can now park for free in off-street car parks to ease demand outside people's homes.
The changes have been introduced with immediate effect and will last until the end of Tier 4 restrictions.
Drivers must still clearly display a valid permit on their dashboards.
Jeff Kitson, parking services manager at Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) said: “Since the introduction of Tier 4 restrictions, we know that more people are having to stay at home and this has seen an increase in the number of vehicles being parked in residential areas.
“In order to help, MBC has introduced a concession for people with valid resident parking permits.
“Yellow lines restrictions remain vital, as they are in place to protect junctions and ensure highway safety.
"They will remain active as it is important to ensure the free flow of traffic, particularly for emergency services and refuse collections.
"Resident parking bay enforcement also remains important due to increased demand from resident parking permit holders within each zone.”
