DETAILS have been revealed of a second memory stick containing cancer patients' details being lost from Maidstone Hospital.

In an exclusive interview in this week's Kent Messenger, a shopper has revealed how he found the memory stick in a supermarket car park five months ago.

Paul Billanie, of Wallis Avenue, Maidstone, spoke out after the loss last week of a memory stick containing the details of 244 people being treated at the Peggy Wood Breast Care Centre at Maidstone Hospital.

He found the stick in Morrisons car park in Park Wood, Maidstone, in July.

He said: “I put it into my computer. I could see patients’ names, addresses and that they were having treatment for cancer, but could not understand the exact details.”

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust confirmed a junior doctor dropped the memory stick, containing details of 40 patients, and said the loss triggered a change of policy for how electronic details are stored.
