A fearless police officer who confronted a man wielding a samurai sword has been honoured for his bravery.
Maidstone PC Greg was the first on the scene after a report that a man with a sword had become violent and aggressive in Suffolk Road on Maidstone's Shepway estate in July.
The officer attempted to calm him down while ensuring the safety of neighbours until back-up arrived a short time later.
A 29-year-old man was later handed a six-month suspended sentence for affray.
PC Forde was given a certificate of merit at an awards ceremony on Tuesday.
He received his award from the Chief Constable Alan Pughsley at the Kent Police Training School on Sutton Road.
Mr Pughsley said: “PC Forde displayed significant courage in a situation that could have quickly deteriorated. His actions were key in protecting the public and ensuring the safe detention of an emotionally distressed individual.”
PC Forde was among several officers, civilian staff and members of the public from across the county honoured for their bravery at the ceremony.
