A Grade II listed house which dates from the 18th century could be converted into 14 self-contained flats.

Medway House in London Road, Maidstone, was built as the Seven Stars Hotel.

Heritage Designer Homes has applied for permission to convert the three-storey property into 14 flats, with an additional two homes created from outbuildings in the grounds.

Despite its historic structure the building was substantially altered in the 1970s and has already been given the go-ahead for conversion to 13 units.

The plans indicate nine one-bed units and seven two-beds could be included.

The applicant says the conversion can be achieved with no changes to the exterior of the building.

The building is currently used as offices and has 50 parking spaces which will be halved down to 26 spaces.

It was most recently occupied by Brachers law firm who are now located at Somerfield House, not far away on London Road.

Medway House sits opposite Allington Baptist Church, on the corner with Queen's Road.
