Maidstone United have moved swiftly to appoint a new management team after Alan Walker and Lloyd Hume left the club on Monday.

The Stones' joint-managers departed after five years at the helm saying they felt they had taken the club as far as they could.

Chairman Paul Bowden-Brown (pictured) described the past 48 hours as 'traumatic' but revealed the roles would be filled in-house with reserve team boss Peter Nott taking over as caretaker boss until the end of the Ryman League Premier Division season in April.

Nott's reserve team assistant Tony Cornwell will step-up to assistant manager and along with Nott could be offered a two-year deal if their caretaker period is a success.

The duo have been in charge of the club's reserve development squad for the past eight years.

Mr Bowden-Brown also revealed club captain Jay Saunders has been offered the role of player-coach and is expected to make a decision ahead of Thursday's rearranged league trip to Carshalton.

A joint-statement from Nott and Cornwell said: "There was certainly a little bit of a tingle in both our stomachs when the chairman offered us the post, as it is something we had always hoped we would be offered one day."

Mr Bowden-Brown added: "We are all grown men, but I have to admit the past 48 hours have been very traumatic for me, having to say goodbye to Alan and Lloyd and then ask two loyal servants of the club to steady this ship, drive it forward and make sure we are playing Ryman League Premier Division football again this season."

Nott and Cornwell will be in the dugout for Tuesday night's clash against Hendon at the Stones' temporary home at Ashford's Homelands.
