If you're having trouble getting through to Maidstone Borough Council today, you're not alone.

The phone lines at the Gateway, in King Street, were closed at 1pm to allow for a new telephone system to be installed.

The council is advising anyone to visit its website where it can find help and complete an online form.

Alternatively, its switchboard has pre-recorded advice for residents.

The lines are expected to be back up and running by 9am tomorrow.
