Emergency services are at the scene of a crash involving three lorries and four cars on the M20.
Two lanes were closed as a result of the pile-up between junction 7 for Maidstone and junction 8 for Leeds Castle.
It happened at around 4.30pm and a fire engine was called.
The vehicles have since been moved to the hard shoulder and two lanes initially remained shut while debris was cleared from the carriageway.
Highways England says traffic is not expected to return to normal until at least 7.45pm.
One of the lanes reopened at 5pm and the other at 5.40pm, but long tailbacks built up as a result.
Police were called at 4.21pm and said no serious injuries have been reported.
Traffic is now running freely.
