A 60-seat restaurant and takeaway could be created in North Loose, under plans submitted to Maidstone council.

Domino’s Pizza Group is hoping to moved into vacant premises at No 6 Boughton Parade, facing the Loose Road.

The building was formerly occupied by a Spar grocery store, but that closed down in May in the face of competition from a new Sainsbury a short distance away.

Customers will be able to use the existing car park behind the pizzeria, which is shared with other businesses, including a Chinese takeaway, estate agent, newsagents and laundry.

The area is not covered by a parish council, but the North Loose Residents’ Association is not objecting to the application – subject to conditions.

Spokesman Sean Carter said: “We are happy to see the building occupied and used rather than being left derelict.

“We have no strong objection to Domino’s, which is known to be a reputable company.

“We are a little concerned that they described the seating as “ancillary” to the takeaway provision – 60 covers doesn’t seem to be ancillary to us.”

Mr Carter said there would be worries about the potential for increased litter, but that conditions could be imposed to ensure Domino’s clear up around the area on a regular basis.

Of more concern was the effect on local traffic.

Mr Carter said: “The Cripple Street/Loose Road crossroads is already at capacity, and those using Domino’s may find it difficult to exit the Boughton Parade car park.

“However, one imagines most of their trade will be in the evening after the other businesses have closed.”

Mr Carter said the NLRA was hoping the restaurant could provide a meeting place for local residents to pop in and have a morning coffee and chat.

He said: “If Domino’s is open to that idea, it could be a worthwhile facility for the area.”
