It's been several years in the planning, but proposals for a new Tovil community centre have finally been revealed.
Housing association Golding Homes has got together with Maidstone YMCA to develop ideas for a centre to replace the old Children’s Hut in Tovil, Maidstone.
The new building would include a hall suitable for indoor sports, meeting rooms and a new exterior hard court and would replace the existing timber-clad building.
The adjacent Coombe Farm estate is undergoing a major regeneration by Golding Homes, which will also part-finance construction of the centre, on land owned by the YMCA, who will manage it on a day-to-day basis.
The centre will be home to the large number of agencies supporting the neighbouring housing estate and will provide “community training” in IT and arts and crafts. YMCA chief executive Linda Dale said: “It will be an excellent replacement for the Children’s Hut which is no longer fit for purpose. It will bring new heart to the community.”
The partners have yet to submit a planning application to Maidstone council.
