Police are investigating after a woman’s home was allegedly targeted by a gang of youths catapulting potatoes through her window.
It happened at a block of flats in just up the road from Aldi supermarket on Friday at around 7pm.
As a result of the incident in Wheeler Street, Maidstone, a young girl was hit with one of the projectiles as it was flung through a window.
Multiple residents in the area took to social media at the weekend to share their annoyance at the children.
One woman, who shared a photo of the alleged potato flingers, said: “The lady who is being targeted is my friend. Something needs to be done about it. There were four boys doing it.
“I’ve now received threats as a result of putting up a picture of those who were throwing and catapulting potatoes.”
One father, whose child was hit by a potato, took to social media to plea with the children to stop.
He said: “To the gang of boys on bikes targeting a certain neighbour of mine, if you’re gonna throw potatoes at windows make sure you get the right window I don’t appreciate my eight-year-old being hit in the leg by a rogue spud through the window.
“I’ll mark it down to an immature lapse of judgement. I have a photo of you lot out side sent by a neighbour in another building. [If it] happens again it will be reported because now your issues are affecting my children.”
A police spokesman said: “Kent Police has received a report of attempted criminal damage to a property in Wheeler Street, Maidstone.
“The incident occurred at about 7pm on Friday, September 1, when the victim reported potatoes had been fired through a window by a catapult. Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
