An iPad stolen from Tunbridge Wells was recovered after its owner tracked it to London.

The victim activated the tracking device they had installed on the iPad, and contacted Kent Police with its whereabouts after it was stolen from Church Road, between November 11 and 12.

The tablet was tracked to London.

Detectives from Tonbridge police station seized the tablet, which was packaged up and appeared to be ready to be posted abroad, at an address in Lewisham.

A 65-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft, and released on bail until January 7 next year while investigations continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Parker from Kent Police said: "This is a fantastic example of how important it is for tablet and mobile phone owners to take advantage of the various tracking applications that are available for devices that have GPS capability.

"In this case the victim tracked the iPad and kept us updated with its location. We were able to react to this information and retrieve the item.

"Electronic devices like this are common targets for burglars and that is why, as part of our Operation Castle burglary campaign, we have been encouraging residents to review the security at their homes and to mark valuable property.

"Our Police Contact Points will also have various crime prevention items available in the lead up to Christmas such as timer switches and shed alarms, so I would encourage people to pop along and find out more."
