Police are negotiating with a man holed up in his flat after an incident which started last night.
A road has been closed off in Tunbridge Wells after police were called out to the incident.
A caller to kmfm said they had seen masked armed police in the area of Crescent Road (pictured above). They claimed there was furniture everywhere.
The A264 is closed in both directions between A26 Mount Pleasant Road Calverley Road / Lansdowne Road.
Motorists are being advised to find alternative routes.
Eyewitness Holly Pigache said: "This morning Cresent Road is completely blocked off, for access only and a lot of police cars and one fire engine were at the scene.
"The contents of the shop Mirror Mirror on the Wall were across the road and a 4x4 was also blocked off."
Another eyewitness, Brian Woodhams, said he had seen the incident since it started late last night. He denied rumours of a 4x4 being involved - claiming it was a police vehicle.
Police said the incident started at around 11.30pm last night, when a member of the public reported a disturbance at a flat in Crescent Road.
Negotiators are now speaking with a man, who is on his own in the flat.
Overnight two people were moved out of nearby premises.
A police spokesman said: "There is limited access to Crescent Road including to the multi-storey car park and business premises in the area and as a result there is some traffic disruption in the town centre.
"Anyone coming into the town is advised to allow extra time for their journey and if possible avoid the immediate vicinity of Crescent Road.
Businesses in Crescent Road have not been affected.
