A robber who stole £165 from a service station turned and went back... to pay £2 for a bottle of Fanta.

The incident at the Shell garage in Tonbridge Road happened at just after 4pm on Sunday.

A stocky, black man in his mid 40s, who was wearing a black hat and tracksuit, went into the shop and picked up a bottle of Fanta Fruit Twist, presenting £2 to pay for it.

But when the till was opened, he tried to grab the tray of cash and made off with £165 in notes.

As he was leaving, he turned and went back to the till, got the bottle of Fanta, and left the £2 coin behind.

Police have released a CCTV image of the man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

He is between 40 and 50, around 5ft 9ins tall and with greying stubble on his face.

He was wearing a black, grey and white-coloured zip-up top with a hood, which had two white triangular shapes on each side and a motif on the left breast.

It is believed he ran off along the A26 to the junction with the B2015.

DC Ben Clatworthy from the reactive crime team at Tonbridge Police Station said: "According to the cashier, the offender swore at him and told him this was a robbery.

"The victim has then put his hands up and stepped back from the till, fearing for his safety.

"No weapon was used and no-one was harmed, and the amount taken was relatively small. These types of incidents are rare but Kent Police will not tolerate violent crime of any sort."
