Police remain at the scene of a suspected murder after a man was gunned down in a residential street yesterday.
Emergency services were called to Cambridge Crescent in Shepway, Maidstone, at 10.45am on Sunday, where a man in his 50s, who has suffered gunshot wounds, was declared dead.
Neighbour Urszula Maliszenska, 27, described how she found the victim lying face down on the ground and tried to save his life before paramedics arrived.
Many young families living on the estate told of their shock that the incident occurred just yards from St Martin's Pre School.
One said: "It's the type of thing you expect to happen in London, certainly not around here."
A bunch of flowers have been placed near the homes with a card reading: “A life is a life and is precious. Rest in peace. A member of the community."
An unnamed neighbour who lives in a nearby flat said: "At around 10.30am I was having a cup of coffee and heard what I thought was a car backfiring.
"I heard the air ambulance flying in and the next minute the whole area was swarmed with police and paramedics."
This morning, a forensic tent remains in place outside the Winchester House block and officers in at least three police cars are still on patrol.
Another man in his 50s was arrested at the scene yesterday and currently remains in custody.
