Shepherd Neame's Rockin Robin on the Green pub in Heath Road, Barming, to return to original name The Duke of Edinburgh

A Shepherd Neame pub on the outskirts of a town centre is set to change hands and revert to its original name.

The lease at Rockin Robin on the Green in Heath Road, Barming, is up for grabs, with the brewery chain advertising for a new landlord.

Robin and Michelle Gordon, who make and sell their own beer, have been running it since 2018.

Throughout the pandemic, it was one of few locals still operating, offering takeaway beer in lockdown.

The watering hole offers a traditional-style pub grub and grill menu, as well as Sunday roasts, and is located in a building which dates back to the 1800s.

It can serve up to 40 people and has sports, live music every Saturday and occasional events and themed food nights.

Shepherd Neame says it is looking for new tenants to take over in mid-February.

They also want to revert back to its original name, The Duke of Edinburgh, when the pub changes hands.

Robin and Michelle own the Rockin Robin Brewery, and previously the Rockin Robin Smokery in Staplehurst.

The couple scooped the Beer of the Year prize at the Taste of Kent Awards back in 2019.

Michelle commented: "It has been really good, we have had a good time running it and met some fantastic people.

"Sometimes you have to have a change, we've had a challenge and now want a bit of a normality.

"Everyone has been so supportive."

Robin and Michelle also run The Stag in Middle Row, Maidstone, which has been advertised for let online.

The pub has recently been refurbished and serves up to 60 people.

It has private accommodation above, including four bedrooms, a lounge and kitchen area – which is "well presented and a good size for a couple or family".

Greg Wallis, Shepherd Neame’s director of tenanted trade operations, said: “We wish Robin and Michelle well for the future after four years at the Rockin Robin on the Green.

“We are now recruiting new licensees to take over the unique community pub later this month, under its original name of The Duke of Edinburgh.

"Any interested parties should contact Shelley Castle, Tenanted Recruitment & Onboarding Manager, on 01795 542132 or email scastle@shepherdneame.co.uk.”
