Maidstone town centre was this morning hit with a power cut.

High Street and Bank Street were affected at about 11.15am.

Electricity returned at 11.30am but businesses have been warned it could fail again.

The Post Office in Bank Street closed while the power was out.

The cut was caused by a fault in a cable outside the Kent Messenger office in Middle Row.

Work is being carried out for the High Street improvement project.
