Power cut interrupts operation

Doctors had to move a patient mid operation after a power failure at Maidstone hospital.

The hospital lost power between 11.40am and 1.40pm today (June 22), which affected three quarters of the hospital including most of the wards and theatres.

Generators were used to maintain power supplies to all essential areas such as intensive care.

One patient had to be transferred to a theatre that was not affected by the power failure part-way through an operation.

A spokesman said: "This was carried out safely and without any harm to the patient."

Two women with high risk pregnancies were also transferred to Pembury Hospital as a precautionary measure.

It is not yet know what caused the failure.
