Work has officially started on Project Kent 2018 - and Brewers Decorator Centres have jumped on board!
kmfm has joined forces once again with Kent Reliance and their team of volunteers to add a bit of sparkle back into the community.
After a huge response and loads of nominations from all areas of the county, the final project to be transformed has been chosen and work has started.
This year’s Project Kent 2018 is the Young Lives Foundation in Maidstone.
This week, kmfm and Kent Reliance are sending in a troop of volunteers to transform and decorate their ground floor rooms into a vibrant, friendly space for young people and volunteers who use the facilities on a daily basis.
Across the week the team are going to be sugar soaping, filling, sanding, painting, drilling and adding a splash of colour to the charity’s headquarters.
Brewers Decorator Centres heard what Project Kent were doing for the Young Lives Foundation and wanted to get involved.
They have provided the team with all the different colours of paint, accessories and materials they need to make the transformation.
James from Brewers Decorator Centres told kmfm Breakfasts’ Garry and Laura: “'We were really pleased to get involved with the local community, helping out the youth and younger generations where our branches are.'”
The ‘Young Lives Foundation’ is an independent children’s charity who help vulnerable, and disadvantaged children, and young people across the county.
The area that is getting the Project Kent VIP treatment is the ground floor of the charity’s Maidstone building which is where the children and young people do their homework, socialise and use it to chill out. It is also used for mentoring sessions and visitor meetings as well as an office workspace.
The Project Kent team of volunteers will be creating a welcoming and warm vibe as opposed to the plain, office-looking environment that it gives off now.
Neil Vickery, mentoring and befriending manager, said: "It will make an amazing difference. A lot of young people don’t have access to the right sort of space at home to do things like their homework and to meet with their mentors and befrienders”.
