Radio One DJ Scott Mills popped in to assembly at a Maidstone school to tell one of its pupils he’d won a national award for his work on anti-bullying.
Scott, who is currently working on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, found time to visit St Simon Stock School in Oakwood Park, Maidstone, to tell 15-year-old Jack Gregory about his Radio One Teen Hero award.
Through his work with the Diana Award, a charity set up as a lasting legacy to Princess Diana’s belief in the power of the young, the teenager has established 15 anti-bullying ambassadors in his school.
He and his fellow ambassadors speak to students in a special area known as the Sanctuary, where vulnerable pupils can meet at break and lunch times.
The Radio One presenter surprised him during an assembly he was giving on anti-bullying to Year 7s.
He was officially presented with his award at the Radio One show on Sunday at Wembley Arena.
Brendan Wall, head teacher of the Oakwood Park school, said: “I am proud of Jack’s initiatives.
"His work with his peers in school is commendable and his role with the Diana Award has allowed him to share his story with other students across Europe where he has turned a negative experience into something positive.”
