Kent commuters have suffered major disruption to train journeys.

Delays caused by damaged overhead wires are expected to last "until the end of the day".

Thameslink services into the capital were subject to delays and diversions after damage to overhead wires left lines into London blocked.

The power was switched off between St Pancras and Blackfriars in both directions.

Network rail tweeted engineers had "fixed everything and trains are moving, but there are delays and cancellations".

Problems started at around 1am when a train driver noticed sparks on the tracks.

Thameslink has warned people not to attempt to travel until the issues are resolved, with the problems having knock-on effects on other parts of the network.

The main issues for Kent commuters were:

• Services between Blackfriars and Sevenoaks will be severely reduced
• Trains from Ashford to Blackfriars will be diverted to Cannon Street or Victoria
• Trains from Maidstone East to Blackfriars will be diverted to Cannon Street
• Trains from Broadstairs to Blackfriars will be diverted to Victoria
• Southeastern will be stopping some high speed trains additionally at Higham, but you'll need to change at Gravesend for travel on to London, as tickets are not being accepted on the high speed line

Trains are being re-introduced onto the lines gradually to avoid creating congestion at the stations.
