Road closures, noise levels, security and parking during Radio 1's Big Weekend were discussed at a meeting on Monday night.

People whose homes skirt Maidstone's Mote Park, where the Big Weekend will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 10 and 11, were given the chance to quiz police and council officials on how the event would affect them.

Over the two days more than 40,000 music lovers are expected to attend the festival - billed as Britain's biggest free ticketed music event.

The council revealed that Mote Avenue, Willow Way, Lower Road, Birch Tree Way, Elm Grove and Greenside will be closed during the event.

There will be partial closures on Mote Road and Square Hill Road. Temporary parking restrictions will be in place on Willington Street, Ashford Road, Hastings Road, Upper Road, West Park Road and Park Way.

The council published information on road closures, temporary parking restrictions, security and noise levels for people to take away.

More than 200 passed through Maidstone Grammar School where the open evening was being held.

Theresa Pain from Blythe Road said she had come to the evening to check that it was not going to be "chaos" for local people.

"We are very close to the park and very aware of events like the fun fair. This is going to be much bigger and noisier. We are hoping to find out how the authorities are going to cope with it and check that it is not going to be chaos."
