An Indian restaurant invaded by cockroaches has been forced to stop serving diners ahead of a court hearing today.
Tandoor Mahal, in Maidstone, was served with a hygiene emergency prohibition notice last week amid fears that continuing to prepare food would put public health at risk.
The curry house, represented by operator Shalim Karim, is due at Medway Magistrates' Court this afternoon to face an application for a banning order.
If granted, this will remain in place until the environmental health officer is satisfied sufficient changes have been made to remove any imminent health risks.
The notice, which appears outside the eatery in Medway Street, reads: "There is a live active cockroach infestation with poor maintenance of structure and cleaning, resulting in a significant risk of contamination.
"There is an imminent risk to public health."
On its website, the restaurant claims to have "a reputation for top quality food and service which has lasted for more than 35 successful years" and insists its staff "want to make sure your experience here is one you will want to repeat".
Mr Karim has been approached for comment.
