A ROAD in the centre of Maidstone was closed after a woman was hit by a car.

Ambulance and police were called to Wyke Manor Road at about 12.30pm.

A police spokesman said an elderly woman was involved in a collision with a car.

The woman was taken to Maidstone Hospital with head injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.

Wyke Manor Road was re-opened just after 1pm.
